Product Care

Don Sheil - This product is made from a combination of alloys and never tarnishes. There are 2(TWO) RULES never put it in the dishwasher or microwave.  You can put it in the oven, we suggest not a lot higher than 200 (although I have cooked a leg of lamb on a platter and a piece survived a house fire)  obviously the metal is a great conductor of heat so be careful picking the piece up. You can put it in the freezer and that has a spectacular effect when liquid is poured in. We recommend washing in warm soapy water and if you are good dry and polish with a teatowel otherwise leave to dry on the draining board. Although designed not to mark or tarnish it is best not to leave slads, fruit or liquids in the article for extended periods of time.

Metal  - Most metals appreciate a wash in warm soapy water and a good dry with a tea towel.

You should never put any metal object in a microwave as it blows up the microwave.

 Anodised Aluminium -

Bronze - Warm soapy water - if necessary Brasso. Most of our bronze pieces are figurines and have patina used for shadowing so should only need a dust or a wash with warm soapy water.

Sterling Silver

Opal

Copper

Pewter + cattle horn - John Triers pieces really only need the warm soapy water for utensils - the pewter stays quite bright for many years if you would like an even shinier finish use some pewter wash and highly polish. The cattle horn only needs a wipe over, and if oils get on the horn give it a little rub with your hands - the horn likes the occassional moisturizer.

Wood - loves a drink of oil - salad bowls wipe over with paper towels and the oil will accumulae in the wood and make washing in warm soapy water not a drying event for the wood.

Glass - really only needs dusting, a wipe over with a soft cloth or an occassional wash in warm lightly soapy water and polishing with a soft cloth.

Ceramics - different ceramics require different care. Most of our figurines require dusting and/or a wipe with a soft cloth - they can be washed but dry thoroughly the steel legs - if they appear rusty wash them thoroughly and rub on some oil. Remember character is born of age and wear. Some of  ceramics are food safe and therefore should be able to be put in the dishwasher.

Textile - the varying scarfs we offer require different treatments some are recommended to be dry cleaned only, some can be hand washed - most have instructions included with the piece.

Creative Material - warm lightly soaped water looks after most of these and most come with care instructions.
